Principles Award and Strive Award
Principles Award
When the award was given, the principle first spoke this brief message he prepared:
"Each year, I have the honor and privilege to recognize one Senior Girl and one Senior
Boy with the St. Mary Catholic High School Principal's Award.
When I think of our Pillars of Honor, Faith, Honesty, Responsibility, Respect, and Trust,
I think of a senior boy who just does it. He is never about fanfare, but he is ALWAYS
about being helpful. He is a model of responsibility and respect. I cannot imagine going
to him with any task and having him say that he can't or he's too busy.
Academically, our honoree is rounding out his senior year with such courses as Physics,
Calculus, and Advanced Placement (AP) Literature and Composition. His passion is
Robotics and this year he went to Nationals and qualified for the Worlds Competition.
Even within the Robotics world, this student is always generous with his time and his
abilities. Willing to help others from our own school and even students from other teams
when he's at competitions, my award candidate was recognized just this afternoon for his
ability to be a bridge and mediator to his peers. As we expand into Aeronautics within
the robotics and engineering program at SMC, this student has been a driving force.
I am excited to be able to give one of the Principal's Awards this year to a student who
just makes it happen. His skills and his attitude will serve him well into his future! !
Congratulations to a model of helpfulness and leadership at SMC ...
Gregory Gurta"

Strive Award
This award is an award given by the student body, and the entire senior class votes for who they think deserves it most. It goes to the "unsung leader" of the class, someone who they think deserves recognition that may not have been recognized enough before
